| Hello friends and family,
Winter Daze!
Well, it is still early in our winter season and already it has
been pretty cold. The week leading up to Jan 10th when I took my
kids ice-skating in Highlands really made the winter unbearable.
It does make me appreciate I don’t live farther up north where temperatures
in the low teens and single digits are very common.
But of course without really cold weather we would not have been
able to enjoy that day of ice-skating. I do wonder if all the rain
we have this year means we will see much more snow this winter.
Marine In Afghanistan
I have a new contributor to MTF, a friend whose son is in the Marines
and is currently in Afghanistan. His articles are the emails he
has been sending to fellow Marines and his friends. These emails
are about the conversations he and his son have had about the war
in Afghanistan.
There are a lots of new videos added to our YouTube
Channel. And the addition of Twitter
feed to our homepage will help you keep up with things that
are happening around Franklin. We also have a Facebook
page that we want you to ‘Fan’.
It is Little League Baseball and Softball signups time. Check
out the dates of when you can sign-up. Man, I cannot wait till
baseball season. My son is finally of age to play t-ball. I welcome
the warm weather.
It
was date night for the wife and me… and we chose laughter as our
entertainment for the evening. We were not at the movies watching
a romantic comedy and we didn’t go out of town to a comedy center.
We actually stayed here in Franklin and we laughed so hard our sides
hurt.
A three-man team called 321 Improv came to the Smoky Mountain Center
for the Performing Arts in Franklin. Carl Crispen and Adam Mollhagen
of Grand Rapids, MI as well as Erik Gascoigne who lives near Minneapolis,
MN, make up this improvisation comedy crew. Remaining

I was going to slack off on sending out these Updates but have
been getting so many messages from you expressing appreciation for
receiving them and asking if it is okay to forward them on to others,
that I’ll continue. If you are feeling overloaded with detail, please
let me know — I really and truly will understand! — or click “delete.”
Once again, the reporter LCpl James Clark has come through with
an Alpha Company story and photos, this one about the firefight
we think Henry was in, on Jan 18th. According to Clark, the firefight
started when Taliban fired on an Alpha Co. patrol, while the Marines
were searching abandoned villages near Marjeh. Clark says the firefight
lasted 5 hours and that several Taliban were injured and killed.
No Marines or Afghan soldiers were hurt. The Marines also found
and destroyed a cache of 1300 lbs of ammonium nitrate, used in homemade
bombs. Read
rest here.

My 2010 started off with a bang! Literally, lots of bangs. I’m
not just talking about the fireworks that bring in the New Year
here in Argentina but the changes. After a lot of prayers and meditation
over those prayers I decided that 2010 was the year for me to take
action. Most of you have been reading my newsletters and know that
the International Mission Board is under a lot of restructuring.
Well, after I stepped back along with some supportive staff and
evaluated where I was at this point in my apprenticeship I came
to realization that the IMB and I didn’t fit each other anymore.
Some of you may be reading this and saying how sad, that’s too bad
but let me example. Continue

Ridge and their families got together for an ‘After Christmas’ dinner
at Kevin and Beth Corbin’s house. This serves as a little break
after the busy holidays and before the group’s touring starts up
again. The holiday season is very busy for all the guys with Christmas
Cantatas and family engagements so January was the best chance to
get together. Remainder
